  1. EZSAMPLE.ASC (v. 1.02) -- Sample EASYTYPE Generic "ASCII" File

  3. Prior to EASYTYPE, most typesetters were required to receive all files from 
  4. clients in ASCII format--like this file. Or, they had to convert files to 
  5. ASCII. Otherwise, their typesetting programs or front-end systems just 
  6. wouldn't properly handle them. Such a pain! (You can tell a normal ASCII file
  7. by the fact that it will display without "funny" characters or other problems
  8. if you use your computer's built-in TYPE function. For example, look at this 
  9. file by typing TYPE EZSAMPLE.ASC. By comparison, try that with EZSAMPLE.WS--
  10. a typical WordStar file--or EZSAMPLE.WP--a typical WordPerfect file!)

  12. This presented many problems, not the least of which were wasted time and
  13. rekeyboarding errors. Furthermore, all line ends were "hard." That is, they 
  14. wouldn't automatically reformat with a typesetting or word processing program.
  15. An end of a line was the end of the line, period. (Ouch! Such a pun....)
  16. Typesetters had to manually fix virtually every line. Still further, ASCII 
  17. files have no such things as bold, italic or other printer codes.

  19. EASYTYPE solves all these problems and more, even for ASCII files. And because
  20. almost all word processing programs permit creation of such files, EASYTYPE 
  21. opens the world of intelligent, cost-effective word-processing-to-typesetting 
  22. translation for almost any computer owner. Lines endings within paragraphs are
  23. translated to typesetting "soft" line ends. So the typesetter can reformat 
  24. lines to proper length with a single, quick command.

  26. But that's only the beginning. . . .EASYTYPE's numerous options are 
  27. available for ASCII files too. For example, even though ASCII files don't 
  28. have codes for bold, etc., EASYTYPE makes that possible through a simple,
  29. powerful, copyrighted macro-key system. EASYTYPE can convert up to 13 of your
  30. macro characters to whatever codes you assigned SIMULTANEOUSLY! Even ordinary
  31. text--or codes AND text--can be assigned to any macro. For example, in this
  32. file, we could assign the left curly brace found on most computer keyboards 
  33. but generally not used in typesetting to mean "go to boldface type, one size 
  34. larger than normal text, they type EASYTYPE and return to normal size and
  35. typeface." Then, if we were to typeset THIS file, we could simply type the
  36. left curly brace for each occurrence of "EASYTYPE" and have every such
  37. occurrence automatically substituted. Without error. Automatically. Of course,
  38. like all EASYTYPE funtions, a set of macros can be saved and used again and
  39. again for future files. An unlimited number of configurations can be created
  40. for your many applications, any of which can be called upon by EASYTYPE,
  41. modified, then saved again--repeatedly.
